Customer Relations Advisor (front desk) - The Customer Relations Advisor is responsible for providing quality customer service to the community. You will assist KHS by professionally promoting our mission, services, programs, events and adoption efforts. You will provide service to KHS customers. You will respond to phone messages and incoming calls. You will assist the public with adoptions and required applications, and answer questions on services offered. You will promote and encourage donations and giving opportunities as appropriate.
Cat Adoption Counselor - Cat Adoption Counselors assist prospective adopters and match them with appropriate cats or kittens. You must be able to interact with prospective pet owners and determine each individual's ability to care for them. Counselors will spend time getting to know each cat/kitten so they can match them with compatible individuals. This also includes communicating observed behavior or health problems to KHS staff. This position requires a minimum of one shift per week commitment.
Dog Adoption Counselor - Dog Adoption Counselors assist prospective adopters and match them with the appropriate dog. Dog Walker - Dog walkers are responsible for giving dogs increased physical exercise through walking and enrichment by interacting with them in the yard, which will help to alleviate their stress and boredom while they are here at the shelter. Dog walkers not only provide exercise but teach dogs basic obedience commands with the goal of making their stay at the shelter more stimulating. Training also helps the dogs make an easier transition into their new homes. This position requires a tolerance for loud noises within the shelter, adverse weather conditions, and be in good-to-moderate physical condition because of the high level of physical activity involved. Dog walkers must also be committed to using the handling and training protocols outlined by KHS, be receptive to feedback and have a willingness to learn. Dog walkers will work with dogs of various sizes, shapes, breeds and manners.
Adoption & Fundraising Events - As a KHS Event Volunteer, you will help share our mission and services with the community. Duties include helping at off-site Adoption and Fundraising Events such as fairs, festivals and other community outreach events. Event Volunteers must be able to promote KHS and all our services by speaking with members of the public, handling selected adoptable animals at various events, counseling potential adopters on expectations, animal behavior and needs as well as reviewing and processing adoption applications. You must be willing to transport animals in your vehicle to the event locations.
Thrift Store Volunteer - Thrift Store Volunteers help make the store successful in its mission to financially support programs and services provided by KHS. Volunteers will help restock shelves and assist customers and donors. They work with staff and other volunteers to keep the store attractive and clean. This is a good position for a volunteer that wants to make a difference in the animals' lives, but may not be comfortable working in a shelter environment.
Maintanence - KHS relies heavily on our volunteer base to assist with shelter, thrift store, and vehicle maintenance needs. If you are 'handy' person willing to work on a variety of maintenance needs, please let us know! Our 40 year old building could use you!
